@Specchum. How about a dedicated sub-forum under each sections, for related ads (non game-dev is spam), product announcements, courses, etc. What say ?

I'd prefer a single "Advert" forum where everything like ads, product announcements, etc can go. Will make moderating a b***h otherwise. Plus it will become a single point accessor for people looking for info on some product. Wot say?

I agree. I had that in mind as first pref actually. The other one i suggested would probably mean more relevant ads to users from certain discipline.

But, Single Advert forum will be our way to go

It would also be easy, In the future, if we probably have Product reviews, articles, etc. like GameDev.net and Gamasutra.
