Exclamation Graphics capabilities of Mobile phones

I have very little knowledge of the mobile scene.

Any ideas in how many years we can expect Mobile phones with GPUs Shader (say Shader Model 2.0) capable, become mainstream ?

What is the current state of the art ?

nVidia, ATI both are aggresively positioning themselves in the scene. Shader support is now available on highend platforms like the MSM 6550, MSM 7500 etc. Similarly the nVidia GoForce (4500 onwards) series also provides shader support.
I can't be sure but I don't think they are following the SM standard as of yet but rather using some proprietory shader technology probably because the devices currently support openGL ES 1.x standards that doesn't seem to offer shader support thru GLSL. In other words, you'll have to use GPU specific code/extensions to use shaders on these devices.

Default PowerVR by imagination Technology

PowerVR SGX core - formerly known by its codename, 'Eurasia - provides shader support to beyond OpenGL 2.0 and DirectX 9 Shader Model 3 standard, Imagination claimed. The SGX's shader system, dubbed the Unified Scalable Shader Engine (USSE), merges vertex and pixel shading into a single pipeline capable of processing either kind of image element.
