When the 2022 edition of India’s oldest Game Jam’s 2022 started on the last Wednesday of August, there was an air of creativity in the air. The themes were something new, different and quite fun. The community was going wild, with ideas flying left and right, teams being formed and terrific games being made.
The competition was ferocious, with every game submitted being a solid entry, and having a keen take on the themes.
As our judges gleefully played their way through 132 entries, it was a tall order, but some of the submissions stood out. It was a mix of their take on the themes, innovation in gameplay, aesthetics and their experience as a whole that made them worthy of being a bit above the rest.
These are the 10 dazzling games that presented fun little experiences in their own ways, and truly exemplified the definition of terrific game jam games. So, presenting to you, the best of BYOG 2022, in no particular order, our Top 10 picks:
1. Press Start to Play
As the name suggests, you need to press start to play. But good luck finding the start button in the first place! Right off the bat, Press Start To Play presents you with a breath of fresh air to the old tried and tested game genres. 2. Boy & Boombox
This is not a drill…This is a game! Boy and Boombox is an incredibly stylish and thrilling platformer experience. And with its gameplay and narrative of you stopping an alien robot invasion with your sentient boombox, this is a total joyride you don’t want to skip. Play Here
3. Can you do it?
Alternate worlds, deceiving puzzles and a solid platforming experience. These are what define Can you do it? - A solid puzzle platformer that will leave you in awe with its blockbuster implementation of the jam’s themes and its mind-bending gameplay.

4. Funny Pig Videos
With an innovative game that feels like a YouTube video, controls like a livestream, and a cute little hungry piggy whom you must guide to his crate of apples, be ready for a charming experience with beautiful visuals and music. Play Here
5. Stonetooth Dentist
With its graphics reminiscent of the PS1 era of games and an exhilarating shooting mechanic, Stonetooth Dentist is a fun arcade-like experience, further enhanced by its wacky narrative of being a dentist for mountain trolls. Play Here
6. TeleportZ
A marvelous puzzle platformer at its core, TeleportZ brings freshness to the genre by adding a fresh mechanic - Teleportation. Combined with well-thought puzzles and the interesting implementation of a gun that you can shoot to teleport, it becomes a truly well-made game that is a joy to play. Play Here
7. Hear Me!
Bring out your inner musician in this creative audio-platformer game, where you have to solve some platforming puzzles first, then solve the audio puzzles next. A workout for both your brain and your ears! Play Here
8. XENOLINGO
A game with a pleasing minimalist aesthetic look and feel, along with its slick gameplay, XENOLINGO is a pure brain-teasing puzzle at its soul. With gorgeous graphics and gameplay that can be easily classified as a puzzle lover’s fantasy, this is a must-play.
9. Supposedly Knife?
The game begins with an intriguing premise - you have been handed a “knife”, which has all sorts of powers. It can conjure obstacles, it can heal you, and it just might even kill you! How do you conquer the fearful dungeon with this knife? Play this gem to find out. Play Here
10. The Vision
In this epic platforming adventure, you have a mission to follow - to guide the last of the orby kids, from a dying world. Its minimal, but beautiful and subtly colored graphics brings life into this clever platforming experience. Play Here
So, these were the best games of this year’s BYOG. It was a hard task for our jury to play all the games and decide among all the brilliant games, but these were the ones that stood out. If your game did not make it to the list, then don’t worry - BYOG 2023 might just be your golden chance!
