Post-IGDC Catchup
With a tinge of chill in the air, winter has announced its arrival and we are almost midway into November. The year is almost over, and we have already bid adieu to the grandest IGDC ever to Date.
United with the common passion of games, 5000+ attendees from all over India, and also from various corners of the world came together. Compared to around 1800 attendees in the pre-pandemic year of 2019, this year had quite an explosive growth. There were also fantastic sessions by esteemed speakers, and awards were being doled out to noteworthy individuals and teams. All in all, this year’s IGDC was truly bigger, better and brighter.
The majestic city of Hyderabad had become a mecca for all game developers this year, as the annual voyage of the Indian gaming industry witnessed a record number of attendees and created a magnitude of magical memories that will last till the next one.
Speaking of magical memories, Gamedev.in also had some special moments, as we announced the BYOG winners and also got to see the hard-working faces behind the hard-hitting games.
To jog your memory, let us present our winners: (This is also a reminder for you to go and play the games if you still haven't 😉)
Honorable Mentions:
Our honorable mentions were fantastic entries that just missed the top spots by a whisker. Both are great games, with lots of fun moments, and were some of our favorites at the jam.
Boy and Boombox is a thrilling sci-fi platformer with plenty of style and heart. 📼
Can you do it, a precise culmination of puzzles and platforming with an otherworldly twist. 🏃♂️
People's Choice:
This game pleased our crowd the most, and also holds a special place in our hearts.
The people have decided, and rightly so. Alien Overload is a gritty top-down shooter, which has you doing mental math with a gun that is not supposed to do what it does! 👽
3rd Place:
An amalgamation of well-known game genres with a twist, Press Start to Play is a fun blast to the past, executed with a modern flair. 😎
2nd Place:
Xenolingo, a beautiful puzzle game that starts out simple and then takes you in for a delicious, satisfying, hardcore puzzle journey might’ve been second place in the game jam, but has secured first place in many of our hearts. 🧩
1st Place:
This was the game that reigned over all of us, TeleportZ. This action-packed adventure with clever levels and teleportation mechanics was our winner. Insanely fun, and a superbly polished experience, this is something you just don’t want to miss. 🔫
So, there we have it - another amazing edition of IGDC has concluded successfully and triumphantly, along with India’s oldest game jam - BYOG.
See you at next year’s IGDC👋
